SH 201 Needs Assessment

At the September 16th TPPB meeting, Roger Bell from TxDOT and Michael Sexton of Jacobs Engineering presented the results of a special study of growth and traffic in southern Bell County.

The purpose of this study was to determine the need for an expansion of SH 201 from SH 195 to I-35, based on the anticipated growth in and around the study area. You may view the report and the presentation at the links below. Their conclusion was that this was not currently needed but should be revisited in ten years. Mayor Scott Cosper expressed a dissenting opinion, based on his knowledge of near-term projects. These projects include a 350 house development on Chaparral Road, several schools, and a new water plant that will support greater residential development and are likely to increase traffic demand in that area. TxDOT Waco District Engineer Bobby Littlefield suggested that this area be re-examined in three to five years, but in the meantime, all concerned parties should pay attention to any changes in southern Bell County.
